Our business is processing, sourcing and sales of prawns and other speciality seafoods; fresh cook, chilled, and frozen to retail, foodservice and manufacturers in UK and Europe.

World-wide sourcing with staff in the UK and the Far East

Long term, exclusive partnerships with many of our sources provide us with the best quality and consistency of raw material, along with the confidence of reliability and product continuity, which we like to share with you. We continue to break new ground in overseas sourcing. We were the first UK company to introduce Tiger Prawns and the first in Europe to launch Organic Prawns in 2001.  Today we are the largest processor of organic prawns in the world!  Furthermore, 60% of our raw material is from sustainable sources and this is continually growing.

Our UK and overseas technical staff undertake regular aquaculture audits of farms and supplier factory facilities to ensure only sources and suppliers that can assure absolute standards of quality and consistency are used.

We were the first seafood company in Europe to require all our major suppliers of farmed shrimp to be “Best Aquaculture Practices” (BAP’s) certified in 2006.   As a result, 60% of our raw material is now from sustainable sources and this continues to grow.  The BAP’s are laid down by the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) and are independently audited by the Aquaculture Certification Council (ACC), and cover key issues such as food safety, traceability & the impact of aquaculture on the environment and communities.

With a processing capacity in excess of 22,000 tonnes per year, frozen prawns from our coldstore are daily freshly cooked or converted into an IQF (Individually Quick Frozen) format using liquid nitrogen to ensure maximum retention of flavour and texture.

We operate 7 days a week supplying a variety of added value, high quality products including freshly cooked with the capacity to offer high volume promotions.



Centre of excellence in shellfish processing


We are Organic and EFSIS accredited, with in-house accredited microbiological laboratory. All products are tested for heavy metals, pesticides, antibiotics, genetically modified feedstuffs, irradiation and other banned substances. Lyons Seafoods is the first and only processor with in-house ability to check for Chloramphenicol/Nitrofurans.
This ensures that our consumers are not exposed to any products with traces of veterinary medicines or other environmental substances.

During the last 5 years we have invested over £11m in automation and capacity expansion. The £5m “Under One Roof” factory development was completed in 2006.  As a result,  Lyons now have state-of-the-art facilities for manufacturing, a large chilled coldstore and modern office facilities.
